Here we are going to show you a few of the stages of development of our Focus RS Mk2 Carbon Airbox.

Fords standard Airbox really doesn’t cut it in our engine bay

The standard Airbox has many restrictive areas and swapping the lid & snorkel for a bigger one does work to a certain point, but your still left with the poorly designed bottom section.

Air does not like going round sharp corners and the bottom of the standard Airbox it very square, this slows the Air, which in turn loses you power.

Making a less restrictive and smooth flowing Airbox was the key, we liked fords original idea of feeding the bottom of the Airfilter with the Air from the front of the snorkle

We also made the Intake snorkle bigger than standard, this aids a larger amount of air to be able to be forced into the filter.

so we added 50mm intake pipes onto our design and blended them into the body.

We tested the Airbox before and after the new intake pipe was added and found we gained 5 bhp just by adding the extra intake hose

For testing we actually used fords original rubber hose and modded to fit our Airbox.

At this stage we made the brackets to secure the Airbox in place.

First fitment of our carbon airbox, the alloy spun trumpet was cut down to suit and the silicon hose joiner from the trumpet to the Induction pipe turned up from Pro-Hoses & fitted perfectly

We made sure our Airbox snorkel fitted perfectly into the Air deflector, this is where many hours of proto typing were spent.

The front bracket of the Airbox doesn’t just position it in place, it also has a ’o’ ring tension system, which is the same as the original Airbox

This ’o’ ring keeps the front of the Airbox into place under acceleration, and seems to work very well on the standard Airbox.
